Blue Lagoon
Day 1. Fly to Iceland from UK airport. Collect car rental and drive to Reykjavik time to visit The Blue Lagoon on the way. Or transfer to town by Fly Bus. Stay 2 nights in Reykjavik central hotel.
Day 2. Time for a city site seeing tour and perhaps a little shopping.
Day 3. Drive the Golden Circle route and take in the sites including Pingvellir National Park ( site of Old Icelandic Parliament ), the geothermal pools, the famous Geyser and the majestic Gulfoss waterfalls. Drive on to Hveragerdi location of Hydroponics greenhouses. Stay 1 night in a hotel in Hveragerdi or return for 3rd night in Reykjavik.
Day 4. Drive along the coast west to Snaefellsnes. Explore the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Snaefelljokull galcier. Stay 2 nights. Whale watching from Olafsvik
Day 5. Time for Whale Watching and perhaps a glacier snow mobile tour or bird watching at Arnastapi sea cliffs.
Day 6 Take boat from Stykkisholmur to south shore of western fjords stopping at the island of Flatey on the way. Drive in the afternoon to Isafjordur. Stay 2 nights in Isafjordur.
Day 7 Time to esplore Isafjordur and the region.
Day 8 Drive to Blonduos from Isafjordur distance 400 km. Itinerary can be varied to suit.
Day 9. Drive to The Northern capital of Akureyri and stay 3 nights in Akureyri, Husavik or Myvatn. Distance Blonduos to Akureyri 150 km and another 90 km to Husavik.
Day 10. Explore the Diamond Ring of Husavik, Joulsargljufur National Park, Dettifoss waterfall and Lake Myvatn. Optional Whale Watching in Husavik.
Day 11. Day at Leisure visit the Myvatn lagoon to bathe in geothermal spring waters.
Day 12. Drive across desert moonscape and the highland plateau to Egillstadir Husavik to Egilsstadir is 220 km. Stay 1 night in Egilsstadir by lake Lagarfljot.
Day 13. Drive south through the spectacular Eastern Fjords where towering terraced mountains plunge vertically into the ocean and on to the town of Hofn in Hornafjordur a gateway to the south coast. Optional visits; Petra's stone collection, boat tour to Papey Island. Road distance Egilsstadir to Hofn 247 km.
Day 14. Drive along the coast road to the shimmering icebergs and still milky waters of Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon before continuing to Skaftafell National Park. Sat 1 night in Skaftafell or drive a little further and stay in the picturesque village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur. Optional Jeep tour to Vatnajokull glacier, boat tour on the glacial lagoon, glacier hike in Skaftafell area. Road distance Hofn to Skaftafell 136km, Hofn to Kirkjubaejarklaustur 201 km.
Day 15. Drive to Vik and discover the black sand beaches, Dyrholaey headland, Skogafoss, Myrdalsjokull Glacier. Stay 2 nights in Vik or drive a little further to Hella.
Day 16. Relax and enjoy the wonderful south coast scenery and perhaps go skidooing on the glacier, quad biking or a leisurely walk along the beach.
Day 17. Return to Reykjavik and stay the last night in town or near the airport and the Blue Lagoon dependant on the time of return flight.
Day 18. Fly home to UK.
