Day
1. Fly to
Iceland from the UK arriving at Keflavik. Collect rental car from airport
desk and drive to hotel in Reykjavik or transfer by fly bus (distance
50 km). Stay 2 nights in Reykjavik central hotel. Day 2. Time for a city site seeing tour and leisure time. Day 3. Drive the Golden Circle and take in the sites including Pingvellir National Park (site of old Icelandic Parliament) , the geothermal pools, the famous Geyser and the majestic Gulfoss waterfalls. Then in the late afternoon drive west towards Snaefellsnes and stay en route to Husavik. Day 4. Drive on the Island ring road north to Akureyri the capital of the north. Stay 3 nights in either Akureyri , Husavik or Myvatn. Day 5. Time to explore the wonders of this region including Lake Myvatn, The Fishing Port of Husavik centre for Whale Watching and The National Whale Museum. Whale Watching trip from Husavik. Day 6. Explore more of TheDiamond Ring of Husavik - Dettifoss Europe's mightiest waterfall - The Jokulsargljufur National Park and Lake Myvatn. Day 7. Drive to Blonduos and change car in Akureyri to 4 x 4 suitable for interior crossing. Stay the night prior to crossing in Blonduos or Saudarkrokur. Day 8. Drive across the interior of Iceland via highway 35 stopping to bathe in the hot springs at Hveravellir. The route passes between the two glaciers of Langjokull and Hofsjokull and continues to Gulfoss and Geysir. Stay 2 nights in one of the Golden Circle hotels near to Geysir, in the Pingvellir National Park or Hveragerdi. Day 9. Day at leisure. Day 10. Return to Rekjavik and stay last night in town or near the airport and Blue Lagoon dependant on the time of return flight. Day 11. Fly home to UK. This holiday can be reduced to 7 or 8 nights if required. |
