1.
Fly to Iceland from the UK arriving at Keflavik. Collect rental car from
airport desk and drive to hotel in Reykjavik or transfer by fly bus (distance
50 km). Stay 2 or 3 nights in Reykjavik central hotel. Day 2. Time for a city site seeing tour and leisure time. Day 3. Drive the Golden Circle and take in the sites including Pingvellir National Park (site of old Icelandic Parliament) , the geothermal pools, the famous Geyser and the majestic Gulfoss waterfalls. Then onwards to Hveragerdi and visit the hydroponics (Greenhouses) Choice to return to Reykjavik for third night or stay in a hotel at Hveragerdi. Day 4. Drive along the coast road in a westerly direction passing under the Hvalfjordur (tunnel toll to pay or drive around it) and then onto Snaefellsnes Peninsula via Borgarnes. Stay 3 nights in a hotel in Snaefellsnes. Distance 190 km Day 5. Explore Snaefellsnes beautiful coastal scenery sea cliffs, waterfalls, highland and the mystical Snaefellsjokull Icecap. (optional skidoo ride on Glacier) Day 6. Go whale watching trip into the Atlantic from Olafsvik Harbour best chance to see big whales. Day 7. Drive back towards Reykjavik and stay last night either in Reykjavik or in a hotel close to the Blue Lagoon and Keflavik Airport dependant on return flight time. Day 8. Fly home to UK from Keflavik International airport. |
