Day
1.
Fly to Iceland from the UK arriving at Keflavik. Collect rental car
from airport desk and drive to hotel in Reykjavik or transfer by fly
bus ( distance 50 km ). Stay 2 nights in Reykjavik central hotel. Day 2. Spend day in town or drive the Golden Circle and take in the sites including Pingvellir National Park ( site of old Icelandic Parliament ) , the geothermal pools, the famous Geyser and the majestic Gulfoss waterfalls. Then onwards to Hveragerdi and visit the hydroponics ( Greenhouses ) Return to Reykjavik Day 3. Drive along the coast road in a westerly direction passing under the Hvalfjordur ( tunnel toll to pay or drive around it ) and then onto Snaefellsnes Peninsula via Borgarnes. Stay 3 nights in a hotel in Snaefellsnes. Distance 190 km Day 4. Explore Snaefellsnes beautiful coastal scenery sea cliffs, waterfalls, highland and the mystical Snaefellsjokull Icecap. ( optional skidoo ride on Glacier ) Day 5. Go whale watching trip into the Atlantic from Olafsvik Harbour best chance to see big whales. Day 6. Take boat with your car from Stykkisholmur in the early morning which stops on the way at Flatey Island to the south shore of the western fjords. Boat arrives at midday. Drive on to Isafjordur and stay 3 nights. Day 7. Explore the majestic western fjords. Day 8. Day at leisure Day 9. Drive back towards Reykjavik and stay one night in the area of Borgarfjordur at Reykholt or Glymur. Day 10. Drive to Reykjavik and stay last night in town or near the airport and Blue Lagoon dependant on the time of return flight. Day 11. Fly home to UK from Keflavik International airport. |
