South Coast and Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon 2 days  Friday  Saturday only pick up starts 0900hours
This tour captures the land of fire and ice, takes you to the deepest lake in Iceland and lets you sleep in a hotel amidst lava fields with views onto Europe’s largest glacier.

This two day tour of the south of Iceland starts with a magical waterfall, Skógafoss. At Skógafoss, it‘s usual on bright days to see two colorful rainbows and in the summer months you can see fishermen trying to catch the salmon and char in the waters by the waterfall. Legend says that Þrasi Þórólfsson, the first Viking settler in this area chose a cave behind the waterfall to hide his treasure. Locals found this treasure chest but could only grasp hold of the ring on the outside of the chest. Then it vanished. It’s said that the ring was then donated to the local church and it is now safely housed in a museum. In more recent times, you might have seen Skógafoss in the fantasy film Thor: The Dark World.

After these spectacular waterfalls we head to Kirkubaejarklaustur and Fosshotel Núpar. Here, you can soak up Icelandic nature in all its beauty and enjoy the lava fields and the views of majestic Vatnajökull, Europe‘s largest glacier. Our first treat on the second day is one of Iceland’s true wonders, Jökulsárlón, the deepest lake in Iceland (248 meters). Created in the 1930s, the lagoon is four times bigger than it was in the 1970s as a result of the retreating of Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajökull. It’s also host to 1000 year old ice and a constantly changing glacial landscape. Perhaps why it’s been the location for many films, including two James Bond movies, and a Lara Croft film.

We then visit the Alpine-like peaks of Skaftafell, a nature reserve created by volcanic eruptions and glacial activity, such as Skeiðarájökull and Skaftafellsjökull. Skaftafell is now renowned for its stunning natural landscape and in 2008 it became part of Vatnajökull National Park. Vík and its stunning expanse of black, volcanic beach is our next stop and this is also where you can buy some lunch or snacks and then we start to head back to Reykjavik – but not before another waterfall. This time, Seljalandsfoss which travels through the Tröllagil (Troll Gorge) and over the fertile vegetation of Tröllagilsmýri  (Troll Gorge Marsh) before it cascades 60 meters off the cliff. The special feature about Seljalandsfoss is that you can walk right behind the waterfall.
