Snowmobiling from Base Camp

Snowmobiling from Base Camp

Tour price £192.00per person

Iceland's scenery is known to take your breath away, but imagine flying across Iceland's snowy ground on the back of an adrenaline pumping snowmobile!    Kick the action into higher gear to get even closer to Iceland's nature and go for a snowmobiling tour on Langjökul, Iceland's second largest glacier, or feel on top of the world riding up Mýrdalsjökull glacier near Vik.  We have plenty of different options and opportunities for you to wet your adrenaline fueled appetite. This really is a once in a life time experience that no Iceland trip should be without. Just make sure you book advance as these trips are very popular - and for a good reason! We offer snowmobiling tours for individuals and groups from our basecamp in Skálpanes, on the East side of Langjökull glacier (booking information here below). You can drive yourself to our basecamp at the east side, or you can
meet us at different meeting points (depends on season). To be able to drive up to Langjökull Glacier east side you will at most times need a good 4WD car. It is best if you have a jeep, but sometimes a good normal car is ok. Mountaineers of Iceland do not take any responsibility of the damage on the vehicle that might be caused by poor road conditions. The current meeting point is Gullfoss Café.  From there the drive is 30 – 60 minutes, depending on conditions, in a Mountaineers vehicle.
Check back here the day before departure as the Meeting Point changes seasonally.
When driving from Reykjavik you head East through Hellisheiði on National road nr. 1 just before you reach the town of Selfoss, there you take a left turn on to road nr. 35, Biskupstungnabraut. Continue on this road, beyond the geothermal area of Geysir and the Gullfoss waterfall. Work your way up to the upper parking lot at Gullfoss café/restaurant. From there you drive to mountain road nr. F35, called Kjölur. Onwards to Bláfellsháls, there you will see a sign (Skálpanes, Mountaineers) were you will make a left turn up to our base camp a wooden cabin by Langjökull glacier. It is important to understand that while in Iceland you could experience all four seasons in less than one day. It is vital to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing to be able to enjoy the excursions to the fullest. You should bring: Warm, wind proof clothing in addition to good, waterproof hiking boots.
We will provide you with: Overalls, balaclavas, gloves, shoe covers (if needed) and helmets. Notes: Meeting point and/or meeting time may change – we will contact you to confirm the time and place. Please leave us your mobile phone number when you make the reservation.
Choice of roads and availability of activity are condition dependent.
