Diving in Silfra Lake

Tour price £219.38per person
Diving and snorkling in Silfra lake!
The Silfra fissure in the National Park Thingvellir is famous for its amazing visibility and underwater landscape. About 50 kilometers from the lake Thingvellir lies Iceland's second largest glacier Langjökull. The melting water from the glacier travels for over 30 years through lava fields before it flows into Silfra. This filtering process makes the Silfra water as clear as water can be. Divers experience a visibility of over 100 meters and can drink the water on their dives.
The Silfra crack has been created by the tectonical drift of the American and Eurasien continental plates. Divers are literally diving between the continents.
The tours pick you up from your hotel in the Reykjavik area and drive with you to Silfra. Your guide will walk with you to the platform and give you a dive briefing before gearing up. Since the water is between 2 and 4°C the dives are conducted in dry suits. If you haven't dived in a dry suit before your guide will show you how to use it. After the first dive there is a coffee & cookie break before going for the second dive. The tour takes between 6 and 8 hours. All necessary equipment including undergarments that will keep you warm and comfortable underneath the dry suit is provided. Please bring warm clothes for the time on land and thick socks as well as your diving certification card.
To take a diving tour, you need a PADI Open Water certification or comparable from other dive organiziation. - minimum age 18, junior divers have to be accompanied by a parent.
However, snorkeling is an activity that can be done by everyone that has learned to swim, so may be a preferred option for many.
All necessary equipment is provided. Please bring warm clothes for the time on land and thick socks.
