Iceland Holidays Press Release

What attracts visitors to Iceland?

Iceland is fast becoming one of the most popular niche short haul destinations for UK travellers seeking a must see safe destination for a winter break or longer fly drive adventure holiday. With its relatively close proximity to the UK by air (only 3 hours from London and 2 hours 30 minutes from Birmingham or Manchester) and ten UK airports offering regular flights to Keflavik’s Iceland‘s International hub award winning airport there is no wonder.  Iceland has lots to offer whatever floats your boat from relaxing in one of those hot tubs or lagoons to late night partying in Reykjavik the countries capital of cool or chose one of many exciting excursions to majestic scenery, glaciers and waterfalls.  If high intensity activities is your thing and you are looking for thrills there is plenty to do such as Snowmobile tours over a Glacier to Quad biking through lava fields or for the more sedate to gentle strolls and site seeing a monstrosity of scenic locations.

Hotels are a plenty in Iceland and the thriving economy has seen an enormous amount of inward investment in the tourist industry.  A new hotel in Iceland pops up week by week. The capital has a huge range of hotels from quaint traditional guest houses offering very reasonable room rates through the classes with a large supply of leisure class establishments all offering clean and comfortable very well equipped rooms almost always with super-fast WIFI broadband available free of charge. Hi end hotels are also a plenty for those travellers who just will not accept second best. In the Icelandic country side accommodation is available with every hamlet or sightseeing destination being served by a hotel or guesthouse some described as luxury destinations in their own right. See Iceland holidays.com web site for choices. Most standards of hotels offer good deals to stay in Iceland during winter months but bear in mind rates are higher during busy periods such as New Year in Iceland or Easter Break.

These days’ travellers expect more than just a destination and have high expectations of things to see and do to fill their itinerary. In this department Iceland is unrivalled  Iceland Holidays in conjunction with their partners offer a huge range of exciting fun filled day tours , thrilling activities and not forgetting a chance to see the famous northern lights from September through to April. The Northern Lights in Iceland is something you need to experience in your lifetime so why not plan a trip to Iceland this winter.

The Blue Lagoon has become a world destination. Twenty years ago it was literally an off shoot of the nearby geothermal power station with the water temperature rising the closer you swam to the hot pipes petruding above the water level. A small wooden hut doubled up as the changing area and a rickety wooden pontoon or platform to allow visitors to relax out of the water. These days it offers a high end spa experience and is world renound.  For those travellers looking for something more natural hot spring bathing is easily found in Iceland and the now hidden secret lagoon is in some ways taking off from its more illustrious relative. Set in the breath taking nature of the Golden Circle World Heritage Nature Reserve the secret lagoon will not be a secret for too long so go there before it’s too late.

Iceland Holidays have been arranging bespoke itineraries to Iceland since 1998 when its founder discovered the country he called Iceland Virgin Earth. It is true Iceland is Virgin Earth and with its volcanic and geothermal activity new parts are being created as we speak. Iceland a geologists and geographers paradise and this is not lost on the ever increasing number of school groups choosing Iceland as there field trip destination. Iceland Holidays arrange bespoke itineraries aimed at students from as young as the age of 12 upwards to the more serious A level and under graduates looking to hone up on their hands on understanding of the world in which we live. Iceland must come top of the list for heads of school looking for a safe destination to take their pupils away to in 2017.

If you are looking for a honeymoon or wedding destination Iceland is a serious contender with country hotels such as Hotel Ranga in south Iceland offering a bespoke itinerary for tying the knot or relaxing after the formalities have taken place back at home. It has been known for a wedding to take place on a glacier or beneath a stupendous waterfall.

Film makers choose Iceland for on location action and you might see a top film star whilst wandering around the streets of Reykjavik or hanging about in one of the trendy hotel bars. James Bond has used Iceland in the recent past with Daniel Craig seen burning his DB7 in a lava field. Russell Crowe walked 2 by 2 filming his recreation of Noah and Iceland is the board for The Game of Thrones on goings Saga.

Top Gear’s 3 deposed hosts fantasise and reminisce about their on location sequences in Iceland and with Icelanders love of Monster 4 X 4 Super Jeeps who can blame them. Any visitor to Iceland should take A Super Jeep trip with driver guide to explore parts of the country off the beaten track.

When visiting Iceland don’t forget the sea which surrounds this Island nation. Icelanders are a nation of sea farers which is still in their Viking blood from the days of the Sagas. Take a Whale or puffin watching trip from Reykjavik harbour and eat at one the capitals numerous sea food restaurants then quench your thirst by visiting the Saga Viking brewery.

Iceland Holidays will take you there to be part of the jet set in Iceland.

Icelandair announces flights to Montreal, Canada

Icelandair will begin a scheduled service from Reykjavik (KEF) to Montreal, Canada in May 2016 with easy connections from all 6 UK airports Icelandair fly from.

Montreal will be Icelandair’s 5th gateway in Canada and 16th in North America. Flights will be operated four times weekly until November 2016, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
"We believe Montreal fits well with the Icelandair route network and will strengthen our business. We can offer a refreshing and affordable way for tourists and business community between the destination and major European cities"says Birkir Holm Gudnason, CEO of Icelandair.

Icelandair destinations in Canada have increased in the last few years, with Edmonton and Vancouver starting last year and complimenting the already established service to Toronto and Halifax. The Montreal flights will connect with all 6 UK Icelandair serviced gateways; London Heathrow and Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and newly announced Aberdeen.

Montreal is the second largest city in Canada and the largest city in the Quebec province, with around four million inhabitants. The city is the center of business, culture and arts for French-speaking Canadians, and considered more European in comparison to other cities in North America. It is named after the mountain Mt. Royal which is located in the middle of the city. Flights between Iceland and Montreal take about 5 hours.
Icelandair has already announced that it will begin year-round flights to Chicago, Illinois and Aberdeen, Scotland from March next year. In 2015, Icelandair has already launched flights to Portland, Oregon and Birmingham, England.

The Golden Loop

Gullfoss ( Golden Waterfall ) is the turning point. But before reaching Gullfoss you will pass Pingvellir National Park on road 36, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Lake Laugarvatn Fontana with its geothermal pool and steam baths at Laugarvatn Fontana. The next stop is the great geyser Strokkur, just wait 15 monutes to see it erupt. There is a cafe restaurant at Geysir.
A tourist trap?  No this is nature at its best, the real thing. After admiring Gullfoss where there is also a cafe restaurant take a different route back passing the greenhouse areas of Laugaras and Reykholt and Skalholt Cathedral before reaching the volcanic crater lake Kerid, The last stop on the list is the greenhouse town of Hveragerdi ( Hot Springs ) where Europe's only banana plantation is located. On the way back to Reykjavik you cross the lava fields of Hellisheidi mountain pass. A great way to see new land in the making. And look in the rear view mirror as in the far distance you'll see the volcano Eyjafjallajokull.
Bon voyage.
