Breidalsvik

Breiðdalsvík is located by road no. 1 between Skaftafell national park and Mývatn lake.  It is 82km from Egilsstadir, the largest centre in east Iceland.  Breiðdalur (or Broad Valley) is surrounded by one of Iceland´s most beautiful mountain ranges with lofty, jagged peaks and sheer cliffs.  It is a beautiful village on the edge of a broad bay in the eastern fjords where farming and fishing are traditionally the main livelihood. Breiðdalsvík has a camping ground with good facilities, a swimming pool, a gas station, a local store, a bank, a post office, an art and crafts market, a stone museum, an archaeological museum and an historical museum.  In the summer months there is a small outside market place. The area is known for its pleasant weather and there are a number of walking paths both short and long.  Here you can be close to nature and the wildlife that abounds.
