Hofn & East Iceland

Driving East around the ring road you will pass through the towns of Hofn and Egillstadir seperated by the eastern fjords.

Hofn (459 km)Hofn the principal port town in eastern Icelandsits beneath Vatnajokull Europes biggest icecap. It is a pretty town with access to numerous amenities. The main attraction has to be the Vatnajokull Icecap. There are many routes up onto the Vatnajokull Icecap; the easiest is up the road on the broad glacier spur,Skalafellsjokull. This excursion is a real Polar-style expedition. There are many 4 Wheel drive tours commencing from the town of Hofn upto the glaciers. Hofn remains a thriving fishing town. Egilsstadir (654 km) Located in eastern Iceland, Egilsstadir provides an ideal place to meander through the fjords and visit the small communities that are dotted about.
