Our Top 5 Package Holidays

At Iceland Holidays we offer a variety of package holidays for our customers to choose from. We have kindly picked out our most asked for and purchased excursions.

1. Golden Circle Holiday

The Golden Circle is a tourist route in southern Iceland, covering about 300 kilometers (190 mi) looping from Reykjavík into the southern uplands of Iceland and back. It is the area that contains most tours and travel-related activities in Iceland.

The three primary stops on the route are the Þingvellir National Park, the Gullfoss waterfall, and the geothermal area in Haukadalur, which contains the geysers Geysir and Strokkur. Though Geysir has been mostly dormant for many years, Strokkur continues to erupt every 5–10 minutes. Other stops include the Kerið volcanic crater, the town of Hveragerði, Skálholt cathedral, and the Nesjavellir and Hellisheiðarvirkjun geothermal power plants.

The name Golden Circle is a marketing term for the route, derived from the name of Gullfoss, which means "golden waterfall" in Icelandic.

2. Northern Lights Holiday

The typical northern lights season in Iceland is mid-September to mid-April when we have dark nights. We measured the northern lights (Aurora) viewing success rates during our tours for the past winters. We found out the realistic chance to see the northern lights is about 2-3 days per week. Daily coach tours start on 15th September and continue throughout winter through to April.

The extreme dark of the Icelandic winter has a few perks. Between September and April, Iceland is treated to a magnificent natural display. The phenomenon of aurora borealis, or what we commonly call the Northern Lights.

The Aurora Borealis, more commonly referred to as the Northern lights, is a natural phenomenon created when solar particles interact with the atmosphere in the Earth’s magnetic field. This releases energy, causing peculiar luminous green streaks across the skies.

There is no single ideal location for sightseeing The Northern Lights. It varies depending on weather conditions.

5. The Blue Lagoon Holiday

The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is the ultimate way to treat body and soul. Relax in the 37-degree geothermal seawater in a fascinating steamy environment.

The Blue Lagoon was created when hot water from the nearby "Svartsengi" geothermal power plant that formed due to heat exchange was discharged into the adjacent lava field. The Blue Lagoon is a unique wonder of nature, a pool of natural mineral-rich geothermal seawater in the middle of a lava field.

The lagoon is rich in a unique natural combination of minerals. Blue-green algae and white Silica mud form a light natural sediment on the bottom of the lagoon and give the lagoon its soft, milky, aquamarine colour.
