The Herring House

Run by hosts Helga and Dagur, the property has built a reputation for genuine hospitality, homemade bread and jam, and the kind of welcome that has guests coming back year after year.

Guests can choose between cozy double, twin, or triple rooms in the main guesthouse, from 9 sqm and sleeping 1 to 3 people, each with shared bathroom and shared kitchenette and views over the fjord and town, or one of the private one-bedroom cottages tucked among the trees. At 15 sqm and built for 1 to 2 guests, the cottages come with a double bed, a private kitchenette, a private toilet, and an outdoor shower for those who enjoy fresh air bathing, with the option to shower in the main guesthouse as well. Either way, guests get complimentary Wi-Fi, free parking, and access to the on-site hot tub, along with sweeping mountain views over the town and its church.

Location is a big part of the appeal. The guesthouse sits within easy reach of Siglufjordur's colorful marina, cafes, and restaurants, the award-winning Herring Era Museum, and some of North Iceland's best short hikes, including the Hedinsfjordur trail, the coastal Lighthouse Path, a stroll along Siglo Harbour, and the hidden Leyningsfoss waterfall. Whale watching, horseriding, and, on a clear night, the Northern Lights, are all within reach too.
