Eriksstadir is a great entry and exit point to the Westerfjords and must stop over en route and it is the home of the Viking Longhouse. It is situated 152 km from Reykjavik ( 2 hours ) and 80km beyond Borganes and a further 3 and a half hours to Isafjordur deep inside the Western Fjords.
Eiriksstadir is a site of historical importance in the West of Iceland and the homestead of Eric the Red. Located on site is a reconstructed Viking longhouse whic is based on the living conditions of the time.
Located in Haukadalur Valley, the ruins on-site are the ancient homestead of explorer Eric the Red. While not fully proven , the location of the ruins matches the descriptions in the Icelandic sagas.
